1. Open the CWK file in a copy of AppleWorks, if you still have access to that application. AppleWorks included multiple types of documents under this format, including word processing, database and spreadsheet. This is the best way to determine what data is included in the file. AppleWorks can be copied or installed to newer Macs without difficulty. It will run as a 'Rosetta' application on Intel Macintoshes.

To convert AppleWorks drawing documents to Pages documents (a little more involved): 1. Open the AppleWorks drawing document you want to convert. From the Edit menu, choose Select All. From the Edit menu, choose Copy. Now, still in AppleWorks, open a new word processing document. Set the margins, Page Setup and number of pages in. If you bought your Mac in the last year or two, don't bother buying this software. But if you have an older Mac you.may. be able to use it. Case in point: I have a Mac Pro which can't run Appleworks. It's an older Mac Pro, circa 2009, using the Snow Leopard operating system. FYI, Appleworks is not (and has not been) compatible with Mac OS. However, as of today it still functions properly on windows through windows 8 OS. I still use it solely for the database which is AWESOME.

2. Save the file as a Word .doc or Excel .xls file, Rich Text Format (RTF), or as plain text, any of which can be opened in Office.Appleworks Converter For MacMac
3. Open the file in iWork if possible. iWork can natively understand some AppleWorks file formats. If you do not have a copy of iWork, download the trial version. Again, save the file as a Word .doc file or Excel .xls file, Rich Text Format (RTF), or as plain text to open the file in Office.
